The International Scientific Conference “Sakharov Readings 2019: Environmental Problems of the XXI Century” opened at ISEI BSU today

The 19th International Scientific Conference “Sakharov Readings 2019: Environmental Problems of the XXI Century” opened at ISEI BSU on May 23, 2019. Within the course of two days, over 300 undergraduate and postgraduate students and scientists from 15 countries of the near and far abroad will discuss research reports and suggest the best ways to solve certain environmental problems.

The Conference participants were greeted by Professor S.A. Maskevich, the Director of the ISEI BSU, as well as by invited guests: O. Baranovsky, Head of the Department of Science and Innovation Activities of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus; E. Kuznetsova – Head of the Main Directorate for Environmental Policy, International Cooperation and Science of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus; Kozadaev K.V. – Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Internationalization of Education of the Belarusian State University; Antipenko O. N. – Head of the Scientific Support and International Cooperation Department of the Department for the Elimination of the Consequences of the Catastrophe at the Chernobyl NPP of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus; Aleksandr Petrovich Denisov – General Director of the Coca‑Cola HBC Belarus, who announced a new project “A Good Shopping Bag”. Within the framework of the Fashion Show, the first “good shopping bags” were presented to the Conference participants by students of the ISEI BSU.

The opening of the international conference was supported by the presence of diplomatic missions in the Republic of Belarus: the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany – Peter Dettmar, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan – Hakdod Mahmadsharif Mahmud, as well as representatives of foreign agencies in the Republic of Belarus – Armenia, Georgia, Turkey. The conference is attended by members of the CIS Executive Committee headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Agybay Dynkenovich Smagulov; members of the International Advisory Council of the ISEI BSU; members of the Public Council of the base organization of the States members of the Commonwealth of Independent States on environmental education; representatives of the Belarusian nuclear power plant and Rosatom. Today, scientists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation and Moldova are working with us online.

Presentations at the plenary session were made by: M. V. Frontasyeva (Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna, Russian Federation), Leon Fuks (Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology, Warsaw, Poland), Mirko Barz (HTW Berlin, Berlin, Germany) Philippe Baveye (Université Paris-Saclay, Paris, France), A.I. Tchaikovsky (National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Minsk, Republic of Belarus). Thomas von Woedtke (Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology, Greifswald, Germany).

On May 23-24, 2109, sections and round tables of the conference will work on the following topics:

  2. Education in the interests of sustainable development
  3. Biomedical diagnostic methods
  4. Epidemiological and hygienic assessment of the human environment
  5. Functional adaptation of human systems to natural and extreme environmental factors
  6. Bioecology, bioindication, radiobiology
  7. Nuclear technology and radiation safety
  8. Environment of natural and urbanized territories
  9. Energy efficient technologies and energy management
  10. Medical physics and electronics. Information systems and technology in health care
  11. Ecologically oriented physical education and health

Round tables:

  1. Actual problems of biomedical ethics
  2. Actual questions of linguistic training of specialists of the environmental profile for professional and in-tercultural communication

In the second half of the day, a new Rosatom State Corporation presented project: a movie-talk “Did you notice how the planet is changing?”. The films from the Wild Edens cycle, demonstrating the fragility of the ecosystem and the importance of each of us participating in saving our planet were presented to the guests of the Conference. The host Egor Danchenko organized discussion and quiz on international environmental issues.

May 24, 2019, the Сonference will continue its work.
